On its 25th year, Ateneo Blue Repertory presents Real-Life Fairytales, a new all-original production. Step into the rabbit hole and watch six different stories unfurl and show how fantastical real life can be, or alternately, how perhaps fantasy isn’t all that different from real life. Re-meet familiar characters in an alternate reality, where they live lives not too far from our own.
What would you believe in if your reality was unbelievable?
Directed by Missy Maramara with music and lyrics by Ejay Yatco, choreography by Franco Ramos, and a script by Gabbi Campomanes, Helene Enriquez, Steph Escuadro and Robyn Jereza, Real-Life Fairytales examines mental illness, abuse, eating disorders, death and disease, family dysfunction and more through the lens of the magical and the unusual.
Against the wishes of his brother, Peter orders a box of Happy Pills, the latest in anti-depressant medication. When Peter consumes the pills, a figure from his past appears and forces him to confront the decisions he's made.
Rosie can't sleep. Sandman, her guardian, tries to help her, but soon discovers that Rosie's reason for staying awake is much darker than he's ever imagined.
Cindy and Ariel want to lose weight now. They converge at the apartment of their new acquaintance, Allie, for their latest means of losing weight: magic.
Lance has cancer. His steady girlfriend Gwen doesn't seem to mind. But when Lance shares new information from his doctor at a support group meeting, their relationship comes into question.
Isabel is seeing Adam, but has recently been taken aback by a strange, repitilian looking girl she's been seeing around. Adam seems concerned for Isabel's fascination, but he's harboring a secret of his own.
Dot is flying to Manila to pursue her dream: to be a ballerina! The thing is, she has disapproving parents and fear of what the future holds... and a fake leg. Will Dot get off the plane? Will she pursue her dreams? And why does everyone on the plane have the same names as the people in her family? Who knows?
